Thank you for helping us fight canine cancer!

Since 2009, Orvis has supported Morris Animal Foundation’s canine cancer research program through our Cover Dog Photo Contest. Each vote cast by Orvis customers is a dollar donation given directly to finding new diagnostic tools, treatments, and cures for the cancers that take our dogs too soon.

Partnering to Make an Impact

Cancer affects more than 6 million dogs in the United States each year, making it the leading cause of death in dogs over the age of two. And while studies have led to new research tools, better diagnostics, and improved chemotherapy treatments, there is more work to be done.

That’s why The Orvis Company partners with Morris Animal Foundation, a nonprofit organization, and the global leader in supporting scientific research that advances veterinary medicine, to support canine cancer research and improve the health of all dogs.

In the last decade, Orvis has supported 100+ Morris Animal Foundation Canine Cancer studies, including their Golden Retriever Lifetime Study, which is following 3,000+ dogs through their lifetimes to help identify canine cancer risk factors.

In their relentless pursuit of a cure, Morris has supported:

  • 33 institutions around the world
  • 89 different researchers
  • 11 veterinary research fellowships
  • 31 veterinary student scholars
  • 115 scientific publications from funded studies

Nyla in the Lead

If ever there was a dog whose story exemplifies the great strides made in the fight against canine cancer, it’s Nyla. When Orvis Community Leader Davis James and his wife first adopted her as a stray, they had no idea what an amazing companion she would be for all their outdoor adventures. And when a serious health scare threatened her future, the way she rebounded after treatment provided important lessons about resilience and the healing effects of time spent in nature. Although Nyla’s illness was traumatic, she and her family have come out of it with stronger, deeper bonds and a desire to make the most of their time together.
