It All Started with a Goat
Believe it or not, it wasn’t a dog that inspired us to build the first Orvis dog bed. It was a goat by the name of Williams—a pet of our former CEO, Perk Perkins (now Orvis board member), in his college days. The bed was sent from England to the family as a gift. “When we saw how much all the dogs in our house took to it, we knew the product was a perfect match for our dog-loving customers,” remembered Leigh Perkins, Perk’s dad, and leader of the company from 1965 to 1992. Orvis became the first company in North America to offer beds specifically for dogs. Since 1977, we’ve sold over one million and helped dogs everywhere rest easy.
